A Tedious Ticket Experience That Frustrated Patrons — and Staffers

For more than half a century, the Indiana Repertory Theatre has offered transformational live performances, though its stark website didn’t adequately reflect that. Several years after its launch, the website no longer lived up to the experience of visiting this beautiful institution.

Both patrons and staff faced roadblocks. Getting tickets online felt more like stumbling through a maze trying to find showtimes, rather than walking up to a friendly face at the box office.

Along with a complicated browsing and checkout process, maintaining event listings on the website was tedious, requiring staffers to enter information multiple times, eating up time and increasing the possibility of error.

Expanding E-Commerce Software with a Custom Integration

Ahead of the theatre’s 51st season, we unveiled a new site using its existing e-commerce software, Tessitura’s TNEW platform — used globally across the world of arts and culture.

As a longtime Tessitura partner, we tapped into our expertise to maximize TNEW’s impact and transform Streamlining the theatre staff’s workflow, we built a custom importer tool that automatically creates an event listing in WordPress any time a show is added to TNEW.

We also simplified the browsing experience so patrons can immediately select their seats, rather than clicking around in several places — another TNEW-specific solution.

Connecting Audiences to World-Class Theatre with Efficiency and Care

Every aspect of the Indiana Repertory Theatre’s website has been streamlined, offering staffers a fast way to add and update shows and giving patrons an easy way to get tickets, helping them fully enjoy “world-class theatre in the heart of Indianapolis,” as the homepage beckons.

To foster an even more welcoming experience, we warmed up the design — shifting from mint green to a deep orange, reminiscent of stage lighting. We also introduced opportunities for patrons to deepen their connection with the theatre community by bringing in information about actors, as well as incorporating locally sourced artwork as they would find in a printed playbill.

Now, better supports the theatre’s mission of “building a vital, vibrant and informed community through the transformational power of live theatre.”
